Break Through Linear Thinking

You may not know it, but we’re all designed to have instinctual gut feelings. While some people are more in tune with these instincts, it’s not something we’re taught to hone in on as children. In fact, the opposite is true. So it’s no surprise that many of us are clueless when it comes to listening to our gut instincts.

Our brains use a linear process for decision making. This way of thinking always leads to a yes or no response and is efficient and organized. Traditional Western thinking systems are based upon linear logic, which explains why that’s all we know.

Linear logic is certainly useful in some areas of the thinking process. However, it is almost entirely left brain-based, leaving no room for creative thinking which takes place in the right brain.

As children, the importance of conformity at the expense of individuality and innovation is thrust upon us. This zaps children of their natural tendency to dream and play with thoughts, thereby creating adults who lose touch with their intuition and fear exploration.

The good news is, this process can be restored! Think of intuition as a sixth sense. Once we learn how to hone in on this sense, we quickly realize our decisions become more empowered.

I encourage you to take a few moments to daydream about your life. Where do your thoughts go regarding your career? Your family? Things that make you happy? All I ask is that you don't censor the ideas that come to you.
